Michael Peel is the Middle East correspondent for the Financial Times, having previously been its West Africa correspondent. He has contributed articles on Africa to the LRB, Prospect and Granta. His first book, A Swamp Full of Dollars, was shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award.
