Rutger Bregman is a Dutch historian and journalist who writes for the innovative crowd-funded Dutch online platform for journalism De Correspondent which aims to “fill a gap in the current news landscape by looking beyond the daily news grind”. The author of two previous works of history, he had a bestseller in Holland with the Dutch edition of Utopia for Realists which was self-published by De Correspondent in 2013. It sparked a basic income movement (about which Bregman has given a compelling TED talk) and was widely discussed around the world, leading De Correspondent to get the book translated into English themselves in the hope of spreading the word wider. Bregman has twice been nominated for the prestigious European Press Prize for his journalism work at De Correspondent. His work has been featured in The Washington Post, the Guardian and on the BBC.
