Michelle Jana Chan

Michelle Jana Chan is the travel editor of Vanity Fair in the UK, which won the 2020 Travel Media Awards’ magazine section of the year. She is a columnist at The Telegraph newspaper and a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4’s From Our Own Correspondent. Michelle’s debut novel, Song, was described by Bernardine Evaristo as “a wonderfully lush and atmospheric odyssey of survival against all odds”; Elif Shafak called it: ’Precise, heartfelt, breathtaking … Song will touch you with its remarkable odyssey and make you believe in dreams again’.

Her career in journalism began at Newsweek magazine in New York in the 1990s, then China. She moved to Germany as Asia-Pacific Editor for Deutsche Welle Radio, transitioning into television as a news producer for CNN International. She was a Morehead-Cain scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
